Big Cumbria are holding 4 X 2 hour ICT workshops at Samuel King’s School on 21st & 22nd April. The topics covered are Google+, Hootsuite, Mailchimp and SEO. The workshops, organised by Cybermoor and Alston Moor Partnership following on from the Marketing & Tourism seminar last month, are aimed at people who run or work in an Alston Moor business.  The workshops are free to attend and you can attend one or all four workshops, but pre-booking is essential.

Researchers from University of Aberdeen are working in conjunction with Cybermoor on a market research project. They would like to know about your use of the internet for a range of activities, as well as an evaluation of the internet service you currently access at either your home or business.

Have you got what it takes to work as part of a team of qualified Emergency Medical Technicians to run the Alston Moor Community Ambulance service.  The crew will respond to 999 emergencies, hospital transfers, etc.  Full training given and a renumeration paid during the training period and when on duty.

March's Parish Council meeting included a wide range of topics, including a report on the lack of street lighting in the town centre, an update on the work which has taken place to thin 'Henderson's wood, a planning application objection.  It also discussed the issue around raising the precept to support local bus services and the forthcoming May council elections.

Two neighbouring businesses based on Alston Front Street win awards in the space of days ... The Moody Baker Co-operative were named Runners-up in the Best Specialist Food Retailer section in the 2015 Cumbria Life Food & Drink Awards and their 'neighbours' a couple of doors down, Alston Moor Partnership were named Winners in the Community Enterprise category of the 2015 Cumbria Social Enterprise Awards.

Defibrillators are now located outside the main entrance of Alston Town Hall, at Nenthead Community Shop and inside the entrance of Garrigill Village Hall, with 24 hour access. If you suspect someone is having a heart attack, dial 999 for emergency help and ask for the code for opening the defibrillator box. You will need to give the location and the postcode CA9 3RF and CA9 3DS respectively. If possible, send someone for the defibrillator whilst you stay with the person in case CPR is needed.  There are still some places left at the training session taking place on Monday, 23rd at Garrigill Village Hall.

Alston Moor Parish Council’s February meeting heard from Eden Housing Association about their Independent Living scheme and their desire to provide more housing on Alston Moor, if they are able to find some suitable building plots. There was also updates on policing, transport, parish maintenance, the ambulance service and the ever-continuing saga of the lack of lighting.

In June 2014, the government selected Cybermoor to explore ways to take superfast broadband to the most remote and hardest-to-reach areas of Northumberland.  The pilot project is focusing on attracting social investment (e.g. loans and community shares) to match government funding for superfast broadband.
