Alston Moor Partnership is holding two historic exhibitions and a public consultation to help develop the initial proposals contained in the successful first stage Townscape Heritage scheme bid and it is hoped that the local community will come along and look at the ideas and suggestions, give their opinions and suggest their own ideas about how Alston can maintain its unique character whilst accommodating the needs of locals and visitors alike. Join the Alston Moor Partnership to find out what the project has achieved so far and what the next phase will entail. The exhibitions are on until 13th December 2014.

Congratulations to Allison and all her staff at The Miners Arms in Nenthead for winning the Best Inn / Pub award at this year's coveted Green Tourism Goldstar Awards held in Manchester. The Miners beat off strong competition to win the award, with more than 2,400 businesses entered into the awards this year for the 15 award categories.

Alston's Operation Christmas Child appeal sent off 67 Christmas shoeboxes this year, as well as knitted hats and hand puppets (handmade by Margaret Richards). £127.45 was also raised through a coffee morning and donations in aid of the appeal.

At their November meeting, Alston Moor Parish Council heard from Young Cumbria about youth work on Alston Moor and Alston Moor Partnership about the Townscape Heritage Initiative, as well as discussing other parish issues, including street lighting, emergency planning, coach parties and the toilets at Tyne Willows.

The village of Garrigill is set once again to be the bright spark in the November North Pennines on the evening of Saturday 15 November, when it hosts its annual fireworks display. The skies will light-up at the earlier time of 7pm this year.

The good news is that 680 Telfords bus service to/from Carlisle, which was due to terminate on 1 November, has been given a reprieve. The service is a slightly reduced service, running only on school days and is also only guaranteed until the end of the year, at which time it will be reviewed. The service runs as far as the Cumberland Infirmary.
