Despite a snow storm blowing outside more than 350 members of the community attended the emergency public meeting held last Friday night at Samuel Kings School to be greeted with the great news that the Alston Moor community ambulance service has been saved.

The official opening of the Alston Moor branch of the EdenSave Credit Union Ltd is on Thursday, 30th January. EdenSave Credit Union is a locally run financial co-operative for Eden District aimed at helping its members manage money well by providing fair loans and a simple way of saving.

The Future of Alston Moor's Ambulance Service and other local urgent response services will be discussed at a meeting to be held at Samuel King's School on Friday, 31st January from 7-9pm. The meeting will be an opportunity to publicly discuss the future of the services with representatives.

Having gained the 'Walkers are Welcome' status in the summer, the group leading this now want to set up a formal committee to build on ths initiative and take it forward into the future. A meeting will held at 6.30pm this coming Thursday, 23rd January at the Cumberland Inn and is open to anyone who would like to get involved in the project to help develop it for the future.

The dark November skies above Garrigill will be lit another year this coming Saturday, 16th November with an array of sparkling colour and bright flashes as the annual firework display explodes above the South Tyne valley. Evening starts in Villlage Hall at 6pm, with pizza from wood fired oven on village green, field opens at 6.30pm with hot drinks and burgers and fireworks at 7.30pm.
