The Cottage Hospital is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. The hospital is mainly used for elderly care but also offers palliative and terminally ill care and rehabilitation following a stroke or an operation. The minor injuries unit is available 24 hours a day, all week to assess and assist in the care of any injury.
Alston Moor is served by the churches of St Augustine's Church on Front Street and St Wulstan's Roman Catholic Church in King's Arms Lane off Front Street. There are regular weekly services for Church of England, Catholic & Methodist demoninations.

Alston Police Station at Townhead has no public reception and is by appointment only. Please telephone 101 to make an appointment with an officer. However, Brampton Police Station, Longtown Road, Brampton, is open from 9am until 1pm Monday to Saturday.
