Alston Moor's Councillor Pat Godwin elected as new Vice Chair of EDC

Alston Moor's District Councillor Pat Godwin was last night elected as the new Vice Chairman of Eden District Council, supporting Councillor John Thompson, who was named the new Chairman, taking over from outgoing Chairman Keith Morgan.

Community Data Explorer

Cybermoor aims to develop new ways for rural communities to access, analyse and use open data through a Community Data Explorer (CDE).  As the Government encourages more communities to take control of their local services and assets, its important that communities have the best available data to inform their decision making.  This innovative project worked with a rural community to identify the data required and develop ways it can be visualised to make it as compelling as possible.

County Council Election Results

Councillor Mary Robinson was re-elected as the County Councillor for Alston & East Fellside following the elections on 2nd May 2013. Cumbria County Council now has a hung council, with no one party in overall control.

District Council Election Results

There was a good turnout at the polls last Thursday, resulting in Pat Godwin and Chris Harrison being elected with good majorities as District Councillors for Alston Moor. The turnout of 46% was slightly higher than the average turnout for the district of 43.26%, with 871 voters out of a possible 1,894 turning out to vote.

Parish Council Nominations

There will be some old and some new faces on the Parish Council this coming term. New faces include Brian Cooper from Alston Post Office, Bryan Metz who is stepping down as District Councillor this year and two new faces representing Nenthead, Matthew Herdman and Peter Thompson. There are still two vacancies to represent Alston.
