strps spring gala weekend

This is a return visit for Lord Inglewood who opened the line across the Cumbria / Northumberland border twelve years ago. Later in the day Cumbria County Councillor Mary Robinson will hand over the property deeds for the railway's land in Cumbria. The Council has agreed to a Community Asset Transfer to ensure that ownership of its operational land passes to the charitable South Tynedale Railway Preservation Society.

Over the weekend Alston will also host members of the Narrow Gauge Railway Society holding their Annual General Meeting at the South Tynedale Railway's headquarters.

All this activity focuses around one important aim - that of raising the final sum of money needed to bring a historic British-built locomotive, 'BARBER' back to life for the first time since the 1940s.
