Christian Aid

Christian Aid had its origins in the need to alleviate the refugee crisis in Europe after the Second World War.

The first Christian Aid Week took place in 1957.  The same week, every May, is the main focus of activity on Alston Moor when the churches unite in fund-raising although we also respond to emergency appeals.  The ethos is more ‘leg up’ than ‘hand out’.  By being involved, collecting or campaigning, you are offering opportunity, hope and a chance for fullness of life for our global neighbours.  While it is Christians who operate the charity, help is offered to those in need regardless of faith or nationality.
