Schools & Children's Services
Alston Moor has two local primary schools for ages 4-11 and one senior school for ages 11-16. It has a pre-school and activities for ages 0-5 organised through the Children's Centre based at Alston Primary School.
Alston Children's Centre is located on the site of Alston Primary School. The centre is run by Barnardos and is used by various providers, such as parent-run play sessions, and 'Two and a Half Club'.
Alston Soft Play:
- Sessions cost £1.50
- A book of 5 tickets is £5.00
Soft-play parties for a maximum of 25 children can be booked in advance from Local Links (01434 382244) at a cost of £40.00. For this use of the equipment, the user is asked to both lay out and clear away the equipment. No food may be eaten in the hall and children must stay seated with drinks.
Alston Pre-School Playgroup:
The Alston Pre-School Playgroup is a not-for-profit LCBG small business. It holds membership with the pre-school learning alliance and supports the development and education of children.
- Open to children from 3 to 5 years old.
- Children are eligible for up to 5 free sessions. (Subject to demand)
- Session times are Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 11:30am and from 12:30 to 3:00pm (Term time only)
- Offers a stimulating environment where children can learn independence while learning through play.
- All staff are trained and qualified to work with young children.
- All children are observed and have a collection of work files.
- Bouncy Castle and soft-play held on Thursdays.
The children learn through structured play-sessions via activities such as cutting & sticking, sand & water, paint, play-dough, construction sets, sea & wildlife animals, home-corner with play-food and dressing up, puzzles, music, craft, cooking, outings and many more.

Alston Primary School:
Alston Primary School is a mixed gender community school for ages 4-11. It is part of the Alston Moor Federation of Schools. Alston Primary School supports the learning and development of pupils through structured lessons, and also promotes learning through organised fun activities throughout the year.
Nenthead Primary School:
Nenthead Primary School is part of the Alston Moor Federation of Schools along with Alston Moor Primary School. The two schools are on different sites but share the same head teacher, Mrs Debbie Clarke. The contact for Nenthead Primary School is Kate Osborne, who is Senior Teacher, and also Assistant Deputy Head of Alston Moor Federation.

Samuel King's School:
Samuel King's School is a community comprehensive situated in Alston Moor and attracts pupils from the local and surrounding areas such as Northumberland and County Durham. The School caters for the educational needs of pupils in the 11-16 age range.
