On Thursday, 13 October, the directors of the recently constituted Epiacum Heritage Ltd, will be sharing their vision for the creation of a Visitor Centre and associated businesses located at Whitley Castle 'Epiacum' Roman Fort just outside Alston on the Brampton Road.

Alston Ambulance Service Update

In response to rumours circulating and the various communications we have received regarding the news that there are plans to discontinue Alston's ambulance service in 6 months time, we have contacted the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to try and find out more information.

See Alston Moor on Countryfile

Don't miss this Sunday's Countryfile on BBC1 at 7pm. Helen Skelton paid a visit to Ayle to talk to Cybermoor's Daniel Heery and Chris & Richard Harrison from Coatlith Farm to see the "Flying Shepherd", a military spy plane, which has been adapted to help hill farmers check on their stock and also Nenthead Mines to see the difficult and dangerous life of a lead miner.

Border TV came to Alston Community Hospital for the launch of the new video link between Alston and Penrith Hospitals.  MP Rory Stewart and Eleanor Walton, Chair of Alston League of Friends carried out the honours of cutting the red ribbons to officially open this new facility which could revolutionise the way healthcare professionals work within Eden.

The Fire Service needs you!

"Are you flexible, motivated and interested in earning up to £6000 a year working in your local community?" - That's the question Cumbria County Council's Fire and Rescue Service is asking as part of its new drive to recruit on-call firefighters and if you think it could be you, then come along to an open day to find out more being held at Alston Fire Station on Friday, 30th September between 3-8pm.

Feedback is requested on a proposal to reduce the opening hours of the Local Links Centre in Alston. Eden District Council and Cumbria County Council jointly fund the Centre, which provides a one-stop-shop to both residents and visitors of Tourism, Library, Council and Community services.  The consultation period ends on Friday, 26th August.

Peaty goings on at Hartside Cafe

A whole day event for all the family celebrating everything that's great about the North Pennines peatlands will run at the Hartside Top Café on Saturday 20 August from 10am to 4pm. The Bikers and Hikers day, organised by the North Pennines AONB Partnership, has been inspired by the fantastic moors and bogs found in the area.
