alston moor golf club2Alston Moor Golf Club

Alston Moor Golf Club is undoubtedly the highest golf course in England at 1476 ft above sea level. It has spectacular panoramic views of the North Pennines and is set over 132 acres of parkland, high meadow and pasture land.

Although only 10 holes, the course has a significant number of hazards on each hole, which provide a lot of danger for any stray shots. Measuring 5456 yards, it is fairly easy on the legs too, although bearing in mind its location, expect a few steeps and slopes.

The club is open to non-members and has a low membership and this, coupled with the course's remote location, means that golfers can generally play at their own pace.

The 17th century clubhouse has been recently refurbished, but is only open weekends from approx 11am to 3pm.  Societies and groups are most welcome and full catering and bar facilities are available on request. There is no professional shop or range on site.

Other nearby courses:

allendale golf clubAllendale Golf Club

Situated 15 miles from Alston, Allendale Golf Club is a particularly challenging course as it is exceptionally hilly and therefore requires good stamina to get round the course. However, at the same time, the short yardage of 4591 compensates for the strain it puts on the legs, as does the scenic views of the surrounding countryside. It is an ideal course for those new to the sport or looking to take it up, as it is short but still demanding. The tricky par-3s are a particular feature, as their greens are well protected and therefore demand accurate work from off the tee. The par of 66 is also extremely generous given its length. The club also has practice nets.
